The BBC Proms 2012

The BBC Proms 2012 are well under way. The 8 week long festival  is the showcase for  some of the best loved classical music as well as lesser known composers and artists. Then there are the ever popular Proms in the Park in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland and in Hyde Park where Alfie Boe, Il Divo and Kylie will enchant the crowds.

Undoubtedly the highlight of the 2012 Proms was the performance of Beethoven's Symphony Cycle with Daniel Barenboim conducting the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra with the glorious Ninth Symphony performed to coincide with the opening of the London Olympics.

For opera lovers there is Glyndebourne's Marriage of Figaro by Mozart and two concerts by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle include Wagner, Debussy and Brahms.

The grand finale, The Last Night at the Proms, includes Verdi, Puccini, Dvorak and Shostakovich, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Jiri Belohlavek.
