The BBC Proms 2011

The BBC Proms are over for another year. This fantastic jamboree of classical music satisfies the soul of the most ardent aficionado of classical music and attracts the attention and enthusiasm of the classical novice. Watched by millions around the world, most performances take place in the elegant and imposing Royal Albert Hall in London. Then there are the increasingly popular Proms in the Park in Hyde Park as well as parks in Wales, Northern Ireland and venues around the country.

Music by some of the greatest composers from Bach to Schubert and performances by best known artists featured in the 8 week festival. There was a welcome return for the Philadelphia Orchestra with violinist Janine Jansen, and conductor Charles Dutoit. Nigel Kennedy was back after 21 years to play Bach and Lang Lang the Chinese pianist with superstar ranking performed at The Last Night. The Free Family Prom Horrible Histories was especially popular with the young ones and Tim Minchin hosted the first ever Comedy Prom. The festival culminated in the Last Night of the Proms, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Edward Gardner and soprano Susan Bullock.

Now that the BBC Proms 2011 are over we can all pick out a favourite artist, composer or event but we can recall those moments and listen again to the perfection of classical music. You can find your favourite by searching through our classical category.
