Listen to it preferably in one sitting and jot down your initial impressions. Then listen to it again- and again, keeping an open mind in case you miss something. Remember music is constantly changing and evolving, with musicians striving to bring something fresh, new and challenging to the music scene whatever the genre. Now you can start writing.
This may be an artist or group you already know and admire or it could be a debut album. Always give a little background information, the history of the band, who plays which instrument, who is the lyricist, have they won any music awards? Has there been any collaboration with another artist?

Now focus on the CD you are reviewing, this is after all what your review is about. What do YOU think about this CD?
What is it that defines this band or artist and is it evident in the music you are listening to? Discuss the lyrics, the backing, the style. You could perhaps now consider the tracks individually. Is there one superb track which makes the whole CD worthwhile or is there a change of style on certain tracks which defines and manifests the talents of the band or composer? You can make references to other bands of the same genre but don't lose sight of the subject of your review. Remember this is your review and these are your valid and informed opinions, but do justify your comments. Don't leave them hanging in the air without backup.
