Laura Marling to Muse: on NME awards

The Shockwaves NME awards 2011 took place at the O2 Brixton Academy this week. Laura Marling, fresh from her Brit award picked up the NME crown for best Solo artist beating off stiff competition from Florence and the Machine and old timer Paul Weller.  Muse collected more votes than rivals the Arctic Monkeys, Biffy Clyro, Foals and Kasabian to win best band for a second consecutive year.

Interviewed after collecting their award Muse seemed genuinely surprised to have won, as they have not released any new albums in time since their last win. They have however been touring extensively and suggest that they may start creating a new album later in the year.

Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs' won best album and delivered their acceptance speech from their recording studios in Canada, where they are working on their next album production.

My Chemical Romance was the only band to receive more than one award by collecting prizes for Best International Band and Best Video. They believe they have a great relationship with their British fans declaring a deep love for performing in the UK. Justin Bieber was equally successful by picking up two awards by winning worst album and least stylish! Don't be unkind MNE fans – he is some mother's son and the girl's lurve him...
