Bob Dylan Bootleg series wins CD review competition

Bob Dylan has been creating his own special brand of music fifty years and in that time he has produced a countless studio and collaborative albums and played literally thousands of concerts globally. Bob Dylan's musical style has seen many flavours over the years but for those of us who were not around in the early days the CD review, written by Christopher wins him a £50 Amazon voucher and leads us towards a small and sensational piece of music history.

Bob Dylan was playing the on the folk music circuit and being followed by several key players in the music industry including folk music manager Albert Grossman who had an arrangement with a Warner holding company in music publishing who agreed to Grossman signing artists for a 50% royalties share. Grossman persuaded Dylan to get out of a contract commitment to Leeds/Duchess. Leeds/Duchess accepted $1000 dollars to release Dylan, and as he hadn't produced any record sales for them this would have appeared a good deal. Dylan signed a contract with Witmark and over the next months produced a batch of new songs including the ground breaking 'blowin in the wind' and a rock n roll legend transcended from a folk singing cradle. Over the next two years Bob Dylan recorded 11 demos in a tiny studio, with most of them being intended to be for other artists to produce and perform professionally.

However the full story of Bob Dylan's early days as a singer songwriter is best described through this fantastic CD entitled Bob Dylan: The Bootleg Series – Volume 9 The Witmark Demos: 1962 – 1964 – a two disc collection of over 40 songs, plus a limited edition bonus disc of Dylan performing live at Brandeis University in 1963.
