MP's rally for Gamu Nhengu's Christmas charity single

X Factor bosses appear to have shot themselves in the foot when they failed to put Zimbabwean born Gamu Nhengu into the final stages of the popular TV show, where contenders engage in weekly live televised performances. It has become a source of frustration to genuine fans of popular music that X Factor publicity machine has enabled its winning finalist to be in line for number one in the singles chart every Christmas. Last year the trend was bucked by Rage Against the Machine following a successful facebook campaign.

This year four MP's led by Jo Swinburn have tabled a motion for MP's to give publicity to the single when it becomes available to download next week. Gamu's reprieve from a threatened deportation that  led Cheryl Cole to consider Gamu too risky a prospect for the live show, has shown how the public genuinely want to see talent succeed ahead of publicity. However, when Gamu signed a contract with X Factor, she apparently gave away her rights to promote her own work.

Gamu Nhengu has recorded a song entitled 'Where will you sleep this Christmas' which was written by her old music teacher. The single is released by a charity 'Aberlour Child Care Trust' which aims to help young people and their families.

X Factor face further challenges this year with Cage Against the Machine, see artists including Suggs, Billy Bragg and The Kooks have joined Jon Cage in a Soho studio and have produced a single which consists of 4.33 minutes of silence. Combined with a facebook campaign they are hoping to win the number one slot this Christmas.

Other Find CD news this week:
Progress by Take That remains number one in the album chart for the third successive week and although Take That look as though they could have peaked too early with sales, they are still one of the favourites for a Christmas number one.
JLS were knocked of their 2nd place into third by another X Factor contestant, Olly Murs, whose debut album 'Olly Murs' went straight in the charts at number 2.
