Andre Rieu: puts fun into classical with Moonlight Serenade

Who believes classical music is boring and pompous? Then you haven't had the privilege of the phenomenal violinist Andre Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra, which is currently  taking the music scene by storm. The Dutch born composer and conductor have just released Moonlight Serenade and is currently touring the world with his amazing orchestra.

The entire orchestra, instead of regaling the usual sombre black clothing are dressed in Viennese costume and Andre actively encourages the audience to participate by dancing in the aisles.

Many journalists are rather disparaging of Andre Rieu but my own view is that they are being rather stuffy and unfairly critical of his and his orchestra's talent. I swear you only have to watch the performance for a couple of seconds and you just can't wipe the smile off your face. It is everything that music should be: exciting; beautiful; emotionally evocative; dramatic; and most of all incredible fun.

Andre Rieu has released Moonlight Serenade this week and it is already hovering near the top of the Amazon best sellers and is certainly our most requested for prices in the classical album category this week. It is a combination of beautiful romantic pieces such as the theme from Romeo and Juliet and Danube Love as well as the nostalgic Auld Lang Syne.

Andre Rieu is due to tour the UK in April 2011 and tickets are on sale now and selling fast.
