Killers Brandon Flowers Flamingo straight to Number 1

29 year old Killers vocalist Brandon Flowers has gone straight to the top of the album charts with his debut solo album just released last week on the Mercury label. On leave from The Killers, while the Band take a bit of ‘a hiatus’, Flowers has written and recorded his songs in Las Vegas and Hollywood.

The title of the album has nothing whatsoever to do with the handsome birds that dwell in marshland habitats, and is the name of the famous Casino in Las Vegas; Flowers formative years were spent in Las Vegas and he was working as a Bellhop in a casino, when he responded to an advert by Killers guitarist Dave Keuning.

Brandon Flowers will perform from Flamingo on Later with Jools Holland on Tuesday 21st September.

Flamingo has been hotly anticipated and appeared in shops on September the 6th despite Flowers having suffered the death of his mother earlier this year from Brain Cancer.

Mixed reviews for the album have appeared in the press, but it seems that the public are keen to hear the Killers front man branch out on his own, with sales of the album putting him straight into the number one position in a week where James and The Charlatans also released new albums. It is likely to be album that achieves a lot of air time and with its catchy melodies is likely to grow on audiences. However, in the meantime, die hard fans are obviously committed to The Killers front man, with a stream of good reviews appearing on Amazon. Having only listened to the sample tracks, it is fair to say that it is a pretty inoffensive driving companion, but it is difficult to hear the Oasis/Smiths influence, calling to mind more images of a less depressing and significantly better looking Chris de Burgh.
