David Gray new album Foundling up the album charts

Award winning singer songwriter has gone straight into the top 10 best selling albums this week with his alternative rock/folk album Foundling, which was released on Monday 16th August. The CD is a double album with 11 songs on the main CD and a bonus CD which includes previously unreleased material. David Gray starts his US tour of the States today but thus far no UK dates have been announced on his website.

The album is deeply lyrical, unpretentious, with clean simplistic melodies that are extremely easy to listen too. Foundling is a mixture of guitar and drum, which is a strong feature of the rest of the songs, but there is some beautiful piano and vocal moments, for example in 'the old chair'. The US influence is unmistakeable in this album, but it also contains some haunting melodies and lyrics, such as 'Holding on'.

Originally from Cheshire, the 42 year old David Gray has enjoyed amazing success with previous albums. His first album released in 1993 got him noticed, but it wasn't until 1999 with the release of his second album White Ladder, that he achieved commercial success - an acoustic and voice arrangement with a major electronic influence. White Ladder was to become the best ever selling record in Ireland.  His simple home style self production methods also achieved several Brit and Grammy nominations and two Ivor Novello awards, as well as a BAFTA nomination for the soundtrack on the 2004 film 'A Way of Life'. 

David Gray describes his movement in song writing as being from the typical introspection of youth to a multi levelled producer and performer of music who recognised he had to look outside himself to the outside world to really improve his writing.
