Newcastle fans 'sigh no more' following Mumford and Sons concert

Newcastle student union rocked last night during Mumford and Sons' cracking concert,  part of their nationwide tour. Mumford and Sons made a sudden dramatic entrance to the music scene last summer at the Cambridge music festival. Currently performing a fantastic selection from their album 'Sigh no more', the band of 4 musicians, led by lead vocalist and songwriter Marcus Mumford, played to a jigging audience of dedicated fans.

The album is a fantastically crafted selection of folk music, which was performed live with all the sound quality of a production studio, with the added buzz of a live performance from accomplished musicians that just had everyone on their feet, dancing and jigging in the auditorium. 'Roll away your stone' was my favourite song to jig along to but the cave was something really special, played with all the beauty and extra-ordinary change from light rock to the incredible rock crescendo of a Pink Floyd performance. 'Awake my soul' filled the room with the peace and joy you would expect from a night good old fashioned Irish bar, and winter winds left the audience breathless at the quality of the musicianship. It is not often a band or artist can live up to the studio performance, but Mumford and Sons managed to surpass it. Let us hope this group of musicians - full of soul and energy, keep coming back to give small audiences a dose of therapeutic joy. It should be prescribed for depression on the NHS.
